- Dear All, I just acquired a new MacBook Pro, running the Catalina OS. I was very happy to see that there is a Mac OS version of the Bard's Tale Trilogy, and tried to install it.
A Necromancer is a model of military android initially designed by the Mithraic1 as a weapon against the atheists, during the Religious War in the 22nd century.2 Necromancers are extremely dangerous and are essentially 'killing machines,' armed with the ability to disintegrate any living thing using powerful soundwaves and to melt or freeze any physical surface with their breath.

Guides on emulating older games
Three brothers must defeat a necromancer who has slain their father and stolen their village's talisman of protection. In the fairy tale tradition, they set out one at a time, beginning with the eldest. If Julian exhausts his luck and can no longer be resurrected, the player starts over with Phillip, and finally Kevin. Each begins with different stats reflecting his personality.
Originating on the Amiga, this game was renowned for its scale: the main map alone is claimed to be 14,400 screens, all of which scroll smoothly with no interruption, and on which combat takes place in real time. In 1996, Computer Gaming World ranked Faery Tale the 63rd greatest game ever, one spot ahead of the original Marathon.
In November 1990, the French magazine Tilt gave this port its highest rating ('HIT'), cheering that 'Mac II owners will be able to enjoy themselves with this great classic. [...] An excellent program.' However, it was around this time that Microillusions went out of business, and the release never happened.
This beta, leaked in 1989, appears more or less complete (if not bug-free). In fact, an 'Ultimate Save Game' is included, with Julian standing outside the final dungeon. However, at the end of that dungeon lies an empty room, with the final boss described by the walkthrough nowhere to be found. Is it an emulation glitch, was the game won prior to saving, or is the beta a 17,000-screen shaggy dog story? We may have to wait for someone who can test it on real hardware to find out (see the Compatibility section).
Your character can be moved with the mouse button or the numeric keypad. The keypad's zero key is used to attack. For more information, consult the Amiga version manual.

Architecture: 68kThe game requires color but is incompatible with Mac OS 7 and higher, locking out most emulators and all but a few Macintosh models. It is technically playable in Mini vMac emulating a Mac II, but the gameplay window is a psychedelic riot of false colors that range from ugly to unintelligible. (The 3.5 alpha renders the colors correctly, but introduces other bugs that make the game even less playable.)
